I am an Alabama Republican because…
I believe the strength
of our state and
nation lies with the individual and that each person’s dignity,
freedom, and responsibility must be honored.
I believe the
traditional family structure
is the best means available for instilling the virtues of honesty,
self-discipline, and mutual respect which are the foundation of a free
society.
I believe honest
government begins with honest elections. I am committed to
preserving the integrity of the election process.
I believe in equal
rights, equal justice, equal opportunity, and equal responsibility for
all, regardless of race, sex, age or disability.
I believe free
enterprise and individual initiative are the best ways to maintain
economic opportunity, growth, and prosperity in Alabama.
I believe government
must practice fiscal
responsibility and must limit taxes to levels necessary to carry out
constitutionally granted duties of government.
I believe the courts
should bring
criminals to justice and efficiently resolve disputes between citizens,
not redistribute wealth through massive, erratic awards of punitive
damages or legislate social changes according to the courts’ dictates.
I believe the proper
role of government is
to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be
performed by individuals or private organizations, and that the best
government is that which governs least.
I believe the most
effective, responsible, and responsive is government closest to the
people.
I believe we should
make a solemn
commitment in this State that every child will be educated and that no
child will be left behind. Every one must have a first-rate
education
because there are no second-rate children and no second-rate dreams.
I affirm the principles
of the National Republican Platform.
